La Bohème, Giacomo Puccini’s story of young love, aspiring creatives and untimely death by consumption in 1840’s Paris is a masterpiece of dramatic succinctness. It’s also an opera that’s four acts long that can test some audience members’ patience, especially kids. German director Christof Loy, no stranger to great – and long – operas (Les Vêpres siciliennes, Macbeth at the Grand Théâtre), designed Scènes de la vie de bohème, an abridged, almost cabaret-style version of Puccini’s classic with younger audiences in mind, but not only. With young singers from the Geneva Opera Studio gathered around a piano in Geneva’s historic Les Salons theatre, Rodolfo, Mimì, Musetta and friends come to life in a very intimate and companionable way. For audiences from 10 years old and up.
Sung in italian with a spoken part in French
