Opera seria in 2 acts by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart
Libretto by Caterino Mazzolà, after Metastasio and Cinna by Corneille. First performed on 6 September 1791 at the Estates Theatre in Prague.
Sung in Italian with English and French surtitles
Following his impressive interpretation of The Indian Queen, Teodor Currentzis is back with his MusicAeterna Ensemble to interpret one of Mozart’s final masterpieces. In the last months of his life, the composer found the strength to write some exceptional pieces, including his last opera seria, La Clemenza di Tito. Through music, he exalts friendship, revenge, passion, political intrigue, and moral dilemmas: should you abide by the law or put friendship first? Does Titus embody the ideal enlightened sovereign? A reflection on power and confidence in human nature. An allusion to the masonic ideal? Essentially, there are just two dominant passions: hatred and vengeance on one side, love and forgiveness on the other. Negative poison, positive detachment. An unmissable appointment with Mozart and Teodor Currentzis, in what promises to be a rare and unique event. A new way of hearing and listening to Mozart.
