Following Viva la Mamma!, here is another work of the same kind in which Donizetti displays his brilliance, in light-hearted comedy. Against all expectation, L’Elisir d’amore is becoming one of the composer’s most popular creations. It is a magical work which achieves a perfect balance between the comic effect of the libretto and the subtlety of the musical depiction of loving sentiment. Who has not experienced the famous sentimental ballad "Una Furtiva Lagrima"? Come by yourself or with your family and rediscover this tale in a shorter version, thanks to the presence of a narrator. It is being interpreted by future stars of the opera, who are getting to know the profession at the famous Milanese academy. L’Elisir d’amore is the fifth project in the framework of the Grandi Opere per i bambini (Great Operas for Children). This formula will surely remind you of La Petite Flûte enchantée, or Siegfried, ou qui deviendra le seigneur de l’anneau, performed a few seasons ago. This is by no means a “low cost” formula, but on the contrary a complete introduction to the operatic format, destined both for young ears as well as older ones, who are still afraid of the word opera. Don’t hesitate any longer, come and surrender to tender and genuine emotion amid an irresistible sense of amusement, under the pervading shadow of the noble lovers of Cornwall.
